Submission Details

To qualify for the Rising Stars of Prose: The Dreaming competition, all entries must meet the following specifications. Note: this is not a replacement for the Official Rules. To avoid possible disqualification, please read and abide by the Official Rules available at http://assets.tokyopop.com/contestrules/RSOP/OfficialRules.htm

1.    Your submission must be a self-contained story of not less than 20 or more than 40 pages in length. The judging panel will consider all submissions as stand-alone narratives and those narratives should not exceed 40 pages.

2.  Your entry must be typed or printed in a 12 point font, such as Arial, Times, or Times New Roman, in black ink and double spaced on 8½" x 11" white paper stock. Use a margin of not less than 1/2" and not more than 1" on top, bottom, right, and left. Do not use A4, legal, or other paper sizes. Do not type on both sides of any page.

3.    Your submission must be in English.

4.    Your entry will be disqualified if it describes blatant or explicit sexual content or grotesque carnage. This means that the judging panel will disqualify your submission if it contains explicit descriptions of nudity, disemboweling, decapitations, dismemberment, or other shockingly repellent behavior or scenes. Insinuations of sexual situations and slaughter are allowed; however, the judges will be extremely critical of gratuitous descriptions and dialogue.

5.     Your entry must depict the characters, concept, and the world of Queenie Chan’s The Dreaming.  Your story should stay true to the canon as set out in The Dreaming manga, without revising or contradicting the existing manga story and/or characterizations. ‘Canon’ is all the information that can be gleaned from the original three volumes of The Dreaming manga; in other words, anything Queenie Chan has established about her characters and world in print.

6.    Plagiarized work will be disqualified.

7.    Previously published or exploited work, in whole or in part, will be disqualified.

8. Although we would love the case to be otherwise, our editorial panel is simply unable to provide individual feedback such as constructive criticism or suggestions to every entrant.
